Data Science is a core competency of MagAnalytics whether it covers Predictive or Prescriptive Analytics. Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference is a great opportunity for us to showcase data science industry applications developed by MagAnalytics and an avenue to learn from others in a field. MagAnalytics is involved by being WiDS Ambassador and sponsoring the event.
WiDS Global
Stanford's Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference began in 2015 with the goal of inspiring and educating data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and supporting women in the field. One-day technical conference provides an opportunity to hear about the latest data science related research in a number of domains, learn how leading-edge companies are leveraging data science for success, and connect with potential mentors, collaborators, and others in the field.
WiDS St. Louis
The WiDs conference is held at Stanford University, there are over 100 regional events worldwide. Regional events bring together women from the technology, business, and academia to help further the reach in data science and increase its impact. St. Louis, MO is hosting it's own regional event where data scientists, students, and technologists come together to explore the latest data science innovations and applications. Send email to receive information about upcoming St. Louis WiDs events.

1. St. Louis Talk: Kate Vermann (Data Scientist @ Slalom)
How to Avoid Data Overload: Explaining Your Results to Business People
Abstract
As data scientists, we spend a lot of time with our data. There’s a lot of cleansing, a lot of coding, and a lot of math. Unfortunately, most of our stakeholders don’t care about that. How can we better motivate and present our findings for our stakeholders? This presentation will discuss various stakeholder personas and how to best convey our results – with all their nuances – to each persona so that our findings do not get overlooked.
2. St. Louis Talk: Margarit Khachatryan (Founder, Operations Research @ MagAnalytics)
Integrating Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics in Decision Making
A new era of a fundamental and far-reaching shift in “Smart Big Data” thinking is happening now. Sophisticated data-collection and efficient storage along with powerful analysis evolve nowadays into embedding smartness into data-enriched products and services. To make efficient high-value decisions it is imperative to start leveraging advanced data science techniques: predictive, which uses models based on past data to predict the future; and prescriptive, which uses models to specify optimal behaviors and actions. These techniques must be used in synergy rather than isolation and in silos. Integrating ideas from data science (predictive field) and operations research (prescriptive field) creates a foundation for better decisions.
